Questions & Answers
Q:
Will I have the same access to my driveway?
A:
Yes. Your driveway access will remain the same; however, the
width of the access will be determined by the width of your needed
driveway.
Q:
Will there be parking on the street in front of my residence?
A:
Yes. There will be parallel parking on the street, but it will
not be continuous. There will be sections where plantings
exist and then a group of parking spaces and then more plantings and
so on.
Q:
Will there be a drainage system that keeps runoff away from my
property?
A:
Yes. There will be a new underground drainage system, and the
engineering design of the street will direct any runoff flow into
the City's storm drain system.
Q:
Will there be sidewalks in front of my home?
A:
Yes. There will be sidewalks the entire length of the
streetscape on both sides of the street. One side of the
street will have at least a five-foot-wide sidewalk surface, while
the opposite side of the street will have a wider walkway to
accommodate bike space for youth and others.
Q:
Will there be a bike path in front of my home?
A: Not
in the traditional sense. We are assuming that children and
slow bikers will be content with the sidewalks, which will be wide
enough to accommodate this mixed use. However, we are
considering striping on the roadway for other bike traffic.
Q: If
there are new plantings along the street, who will be responsible
for their upkeep?
A: Any
plantings put in by the City for the new streetscape design will be
maintained by the City unless other arrangements are made with the
homeowner.
Q: Who
will pick up the leaves in the streetscape?
A: The
City will take care of leaves within the streetscape plantings, the
gutters/waterways, and the street.
Q:
Will it be difficult to cross the new street?
A: No.
Today the street is very wide and many motorists pass illegally on
the right, going into the dirt. The new streetscape will
prevent that and make it much easier and safer to cross the street.
There will also be specific pedestrian crosswalks at intersections.
Q:
Will there be lighting on the street?
A:
Yes. The streetscape design calls for decorative streetlights
along the street and sidewalk. There may be other lighting as
well at specific points of interest.
Q:
Will the speed limit be the same?
A:
Yes. The speed limit will remain the same, but the streetscape
purposely has been designed to calm or slow the traffic.
Q:
Will my view be block by additional plantings?
A: No.
Any streetscape plantings will be placed for optimum beauty and
safety, taking into account the view from a home as well as into a
home and yard.
Q: How
will this benefit the City?
A: 1)
Drainage. The City has struggled with drainage on Santa Clara
Drive for many years. The new streetscape design will solve
this problem.
2) Walk able streets. There has been a push to add sidewalks
and widen existing ones. Santa Clara residents need a safe and
pleasant way to walk to their neighbor's, the post office, and to
the new business that are beginning to come to the downtown.
Santa Clara is a beautiful city and will be even more attractive as
a safe, walk able community. |
